RACE 1 – 2.20
A tricky opener as several of these have questions to answer. ASIAN PRINCE looks the most solid option as he bumped into a well handicapped rival on his last start and has proved consistent since the headgear has been applied. Back On Tow was behind the selection at Taunton and is entitled to get closer on today’s terms and is another to consider. Jambobo could improve now he tackles handicaps for the first time, while a drop in grade may also help Tae Kwon Do.
Three horses dominated both the betting and the contest at a wind and rain swept Newton Abbot in the SIS Serving International Bookmakers “National Hunt” Maiden Hurdle 2m3f. The Seamus Mullins trained FERGALL set a decent gallop on his first start since December and found extra when challenged by the 6/4 favourite Vibrato Valtat to win by 2 ½ lengths with Big Casino taking third place prize monies.
A reminder that the Racecourse section of the Teign Estuary Trail will be closed today – Thursday 9 May – between 1pm and 6:30pm to protect the health and safety of the riders and horses. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
If VIBRATO VALTAT reproduces the form he showed when second to a subsequent Grade 1 winner, then he should take all the beating in today’s company. Both Big Casino and Fergall should be capable of fighting out minor honours, while Never Says Never may prove best of those making their debut over obstacles today.
