With the recent reopening of the Dawlish mainline, bumper crowds are expected at Newton Abbot Racecourse as they prepare to welcome scores of horseracing fans for their ever-popular Easter Saturday fixture on 19th April.
The betting market suggested there was only three contenders in the opening race The Ladies Day 24 June Maiden Hurdle Race 2m 1f. Leading contenders Revaader and 7/4F Remiluc duly dominated in the early stages but the race was over when the David Pipe trained SAIL BY THE SEA drew clear three out under Tom Scudamore to win easily by 25 lengths from Star Date. The winner could possibly be heading to the Punchestown Festival.
A degree of guesswork is required with French import Remiluc making his British debut and while he’s very much respected on his first start for new connections, a chance is taken with SAIL BY THE SEA who returns from an absence.
As the countdown to the new season of summer jumps racing gets ever-closer, Newton Abbot Racecourse are finishing their annual improvements in time for the first fixture on Tuesday 1st April.
