We regret to inform you that our eagerly anticipated Season Opener at Newton Abbot Racecourse, scheduled for Saturday 30 March, has been abandoned due to standing water on the track.
The decision, taken with the safety of both horses and jockeys in mind, was announced this week, leaving many disappointed spectators and participants.
Recent heavy rainfall has left sections of the track submerged, making it unsuitable for racing.
Despite the efforts of racecourse officials to mitigate the effects of the weather, the conditions did not improve sufficiently to ensure a safe environment for the scheduled races.
In light of this cancellation, racegoers who have purchased tickets for the event will be issued a full refund, ensuring fairness to all attendees.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we process these refunds promptly – usually within 7-10 working days.
With the Season Opener now abandoned and no plans for rescheduling the event, attention turns to the next fixture on the racing calendar.
The next race at Newton Abbot Racecourse is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Gates Open: 12:12

Before that race, however, you can join us at the racecourse on Saturday 6 April for the Craft, Gift and Food Fair!
If you love gifts and all things hand-crafted, this is one event not to miss.
Plus, new for 2024, is the addition of lots of wonderful food stalls – with so many great local producers in the local area, it’s the ideal opportunity to find some new favourites!
Join us at the racecourse from 10am and mill around a fantastic selection of craft, gift and food stalls to find gifts for friends and family, or use the excuse to treat yourself.
Newton Abbot Flower Club will also be hosting a Flower Arranging workshop where you can learn how to make a beautiful spring tabletop display.
This could be something lovely to pop on your mantel piece or dining table, or it could make a special gift to pass to someone you love or care for.
All the flowers, foliage and expertise guidance and entry to the Craft, Gift and Food Fair is included in the price of just £18.00 per person.
We hope to see you there!
