Summer jumps racing continues at Newton Abbot Racecourse where another good crowd will gather to join in the atmosphere of the day. Seven races are on offer which has been well supported by the top trainers.
Only three are entered for the opening Racing Partnership Novices’ Hurdle race run over two and three-quarter miles, with the promising Presenting-sired mare Parody standing out for Champion trainer Paul Nicholls. Parody runs in the colours of the Owners Group syndicate, who have a good strike rate with their horses at this course. Harry Cobden is booked to ride, and the combination look set to follow up on their impressive 11 length win here earlier this month. Trainer Paul Nicholls is impressed with the fast-improving mare, who is a strong stayer. Her main danger here is the David Bridgewater entry Moon’s Cross, but with a 7lb weight allowance Parody should run well again.
Fifty Shades for trainer Christian Williams stands out in the You Are Both 27 Today Handicap Chase which is run over three and a quarter miles. Seven are entered with Fifty Shades looking the likely favourite having previously won at this track last season, and after his recent second at Fakenham in April. Bryony Frost takes the ride on the Neil King entry Little Windmill and are also previous course winners here. Colin Tizzard’s Exxaro will need to defy top weight and bounce back from a poor run at Uttoxeter in May to figure.
In the Class 3 Follow Attheraces On Twitter Handicap Hurdle race run over an extended two and a quarter miles, Tamarillo Grove for the Sophie Leech team has won at this track an impressive eight times, and could follow up on his latest win here in May and June. Phillip Hobbs has entered Majestic Touch who could go well for jockey Richard Johnson on their first outing this season, having run well here when winning in September.
Out of the four entered in the Sky Sports Racing On Sky 415 Novices’ Handicap Chase over two miles and half a furlong, the David Pipe entry Teaser looks interesting, having the benefit of a low weight and could clock up his season’s hat-trick here. The trainer is double-handed in this race with Delface, but it could be the Colin Tizzard entry Storm Home under jockey Harry Cobden to deny the Pipe team a one-two, with the Tizzard entry looking to defy top weight and improve on his recent fourth at Ffos Las when sent off favourite that day.
David Pipe’s entry Ourmullion had no problem handling the fast conditions here when winning at the last meeting and could go well again in the Happy 70th Birthday Paddy Parr Inn Handicap Hurdle run over two miles and one furlong. Nine are entered which also include Nabhan for trainer Bernard Lewellyn, the horse looks to have been freshened up with a flat race at Epsom last month where he won, with his previous second in a hurdle race at Ffos Las, could see him with his nose in front again if staying the distance and conditions to suit.
Five go in the Independent Racecourse Limited,IRL Handicap Chase over two miles and five furlongs. And looking a tricky race to call preference would go to the Sam Thomas-trained Royal Magic with the booking of Richard Johnson for the Luke Harvey Racing Club. The horse was an unlucky faller for the Club when well fancied here in June, having previously won his race at Southwell earlier that month. Dr Richard Newlands entry Samson could be another to consider under jockey Sam Twiston-Davies, if defying top weight they could follow up on their win at Worcester earlier this month.
Finally up to close the day is the Actuate Marketing Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race over two miles and a furlong, which could go the way of another Pipe entry Noel’s Boy having finished second here earlier this month. Nicky Henderson has an interesting entry Crystal Gazing, who finished third on her debut run at Southwell in June and has Nico de Boinville booked to ride.
Gates open at 12.15 with the first race off at 14.15 Children under 18 free.
